The Olympic Games took its origin from ancient Greece, these games originated from ancient Greece, from as far as 776 B.C., and began again on April 6th, 1896. The Olympics feature both winter and summer sport competitions with thousands of athletes participating from over 200 different nations. The Olympics is considered the most famous sporting competition in the world, which is also, one of the most leading international sporting events.
The 2010 Vancouver Olympics gave Canada an opportunity to show itself at a global level. During these games (specifically during the gold medalist hockey games), Canadians represented themselves in a way we will never forget. The streets of Vancouver were flooded with a sea of red and white, as Canadian’s collectively showed their Canadian spirit by making their voices heard.
The Canadian Heritage (a department in the Canadian government that deals with the policies and programs regarding arts, culture, media, communication networks, official languages, status of women, and sports. The Canadian Heritage was the lead federal government for the Olympic Games.
The opening ceremony began with the Canadian national anthem being sung in both official Canadian languages (English and French). The Ceremony began on February 12, 2010, at 6:00 pm. The ceremony was held at the very large B.C. Place Stadium, in Vancouver, British Columbia. This was first and only Olympic Ceremony to be held inside. In the opening ceremony, Canada has also shown Identity and Heritage by including the culture of the first nation’s tribe into the opening ceremony. The four host First Nations, a group that represented bands whose traditional lands are home to the Vancouver Olympics were asked to plan an important event in the opening ceremony. The Indigenous hoped that their efforts and contribution to the Vancouver Olympics would be remembered.
The Vancouver Olympics faced a number of controversy and concerns before and during the games. The controversy was over safety, bilingualism, security violations, trademark enforcement, ticketing, transportation, and many more. As time passes, people begin to realize that the 2010 Vancouver Olympics would be one of the most well-known and remembered Olympics that took place.
